Fabio Vieira has left Arsenal to join Bundesliga side Hamburg SV.

Vieira spent last season on loan in Germany, scoring seven goals in 29 appearances, and has now made the move permanent. 

Since signing for Arsenal in a £34 million ($46m) deal in 2022, Vieira has made just five Premier League starts, with his last appearance for the north London club coming over two seasons ago.

Viera also spent a year on loan at Porto the season before last.

He said: "I'm very happy to be back. I already know the club, the fans, and many of my teammates. It feels great to be a part of it again. I knew from the beginning that there was a possibility for me to come back here. I felt that HSV had made a real effort to bring me back. Now I'm back and can't wait to get started again." 

Sporting director Claus Costa said: "We all know what we have in Fabio. He was an absolute game-changer for us last season and possesses qualities that add a special dimension to our play. We are all the more pleased that he has clearly committed to our vision, the team, and the entire club.

"We are overjoyed that we were all able to complete this transfer together and that Fabio is now a long-term member of the HSV family. A special thank you also goes to our colleagues at Arsenal, especially Andrea Berta, for the highly professional and constructive dialogue. Our discussions were solution-oriented and always characterized by mutual respect."

Board member for sport, Kathleen Krüger, added: "Fabio is a true football artist -- a player with outstanding technical skills who can enchant spectators with his ball control. He impressively demonstrated this in the last Bundesliga season. It is all the more remarkable that a player of this quality consciously chose our path and that we, as a club, have managed to secure his permanent commitment to HSV in only our second year after promotion. This is anything but a given and a strong sign of our development."
